Intertoto Cup 2006
Villarreal’s 2006 Intertoto campaign was the shortest European campaign in the club’s history.
The Submarine met Maribor in the third round and was eliminated from the competition.
The damage was done in the first leg after goals from Rakic and Mihelic cancelled out Forlán’s 71st minute strike and earned the Slovenian side a great victory (1-2).
Faced with a difficult second leg, Villarreal was unable stage a comeback drawing 1-1 following a goal from Nihat.
